| Frances trained at Aberystwyth University, L’Ecole des Beaux Arts, Nantes and Goldsmiths College. She is now a senior tutor at West Dean College, Chichester. She constructs carefully crafted courses, designed to relax, inspire and challenge.
The course will endeavour to respond to weather and place using water based media with a limited palette. Much is revealed about the unique qualities of place when we are privileged to spend time in a chosen environment. Most of the work will take place outside but some time will be spent in the studio working in response to work made en plein air. The weather may well 'participate' generously in the paintings. Frances endeavours to support each student in his or her individual response to this very particular landscape.
The aim will be to enjoy getting familiar with a limited 6 colour palette, extend techniques and risk new ways of working. Frances is an experienced tutor and endeavours to discern the unique 'voice' of each student and thereby encourages the individual to flourish within the supportive context of the group.
Students will be encouraged to work economically to obtain lively and immediate images. Frances will offer an opportunity to make work alongside her at dawn or dusk as it is at these times of day the most change takes place. This is of course optional!
